Very dirty mop, do not buy it again: a drop of this ingredient and it will be as good as new again

If your mop is grimy, smelly, or stiff, the “magic ingredient” people usually refer to is white vinegar.

Here’s how to bring your mop back to life:

What to do:

Fill a bucket with hot water

Add 1 cup of white vinegar

Soak the mop head for 20–30 minutes

Rinse thoroughly with clean water

Let it air dry completely (preferably in sunlight)

Why it works: Vinegar breaks down grease, kills odor-causing bacteria, and helps dissolve mineral buildup that makes mop fibers stiff and dirty.

For extra dirty mops: You can add a spoon of baking soda after soaking (not at the same time—it fizzes and cancels out the effect). Or follow up with a mild detergent wash.

One reality check:

If the mop head is falling apart, permanently stained, or still smells after cleaning, it’s probably time to replace it. No hack can fully restore worn-out fibers.
